Jana Lamáčová Brings Home Silver from the MMA World Championships. “I See It as Motivation for the Future”
After last year’s golden success at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi, Jana Lamáčová once again stood among the world’s MMA elite. This time, however, she entered a different weight class and faced an opponent who had already claimed the world title twice. The result was a silver medal — a success for many, but for Jana, more of a challenge.
She talks about her journey, demanding preparation, and what lies ahead in this open interview..
Jana, what were your first thoughts after the final match?
Honestly? My mind felt pretty blank. I was mainly thinking about what I could do differently next time and how I can keep progressing.
Was this year’s championship more difficult than last year’s?
Definitely. The preparation was complicated — I dealt with injuries, mental challenges, and weight issues. In the end, we decided I would move up to a higher weight class than last year.
How was this year’s event different?
As I mentioned, the main change was the weight class. Unfortunately, I had only one opponent — but she had already won the world title in this division twice. It was definitely my toughest match so far.
How would you rate your performance?
Right after we arrived in the UAE, we started training twice a day, so there wasn’t much rest. Training went well and I felt good, but during the match, many things didn’t go my way. It just wasn’t clicking. So no, I’m not satisfied.

What can you say about your opponent?
The Spanish fighter was very experienced. She’s earned medals not only in MMA but also in sambo, grappling, and boxing. We studied her matches and prepared accordingly. But she surprised me with her strength — especially on the ground. It was really difficult just to move. She applied a lot of pressure, and it was hard to get into a better position from the guard.
Did you feel any pressure as last year’s world champion?
Not really. This year, I wasn’t defending the title — I moved to a different weight class. My opponent was the one defending the title. So I didn’t feel much pressure.
What was different in your training compared to last year?
We included more compensatory exercises. During sparring, we had to be more careful because of some health issues, but overall, we trained hard.
What helped you stay mentally strong throughout the tournament?
Definitely my coaches. They were with me the entire time. When you have people like that around you, you tell yourself you have to push through — even for them.
How was the atmosphere in your team?
Great. The atmosphere was more than good, and because of that, I always enjoy every championship.
What does the silver medal mean to you?
Honestly? Nothing particularly positive. Some people might see it as a success, but I don’t. I see it as motivation for the future. I know I can do better.
What’s your next goal?
The next target is the European Championships, which will be held in the junior category this time. That means different rules and 3-minute rounds. I’m really looking forward to it!
Do you want to say something to your fans?
Just a big thank you. Without that kind of support, I wouldn’t be able to compete. Since I don’t have many opponents in the Czech Republic, international competition is really important for me. Thank you all so much!
