Boxer and five-time Czech champion David Popovič shot a UGC video for Under Armour’s paid social ads. He made seven versions – each with a different opening shot and first line – so the brand could test in its campaign what grabs viewers most.
A real athlete in a real gym
David shot where he actually trains – in a boxing gym, at the heavy bags, in the ring and on the mats. He wears an Under Armour compression top and training gear and shows it doing what he does every day: training hard enough to sweat. So viewers don’t see a model in a studio but a professional athlete they can trust when he says the gear holds up in the gym.
Seven versions for ad testing
In performance advertising, the first seconds decide everything. So David shot seven versions with the same message but a different opening shot and first line each time – from training at the heavy bag to a version that opens straight with the offer. The brand runs them against each other and moves budget to the best performer.
Ready for ads
Every version is vertical (9:16), around 30 seconds long and has bold subtitles, so it works with the sound off. At the end the video moves to the offer, so viewers know what to do next.
Athlete UGC for your brand
We make videos like this with a whole roster of athletes – from Olympic medallists to rising talents. We pick an athlete who suits your product, write the script and shoot multiple versions, so you can test in your ads and only scale the one that works. We describe how to work with an athlete step by step – from selection to measuring results – in our guide for brands. We sum up how to film such videos and test them in ads in our guide to UGC videos with athletes.
